Peso da Régua, 1 June 2001 (Portugal)

EFIP seminar on inland ports and shipping Peso da Régua, 1 June 2001 (Portugal)

The share of waterborne transport in Europe is growing, not only in
Western Europe but also in the periphery. Just-in time delivery, spare
capacity, excellent environmental performance and safety record contribute
undoubtedly to its success. Inland ports fully integrate shipping within the transport
chain by offering multimodal connections and a wide range of value added services.

Inland ports and shipping create together new business opportunities
for future-oriented and sustainable network logistics, providing competitive
answers to the globalisation process.

EFIP would like to address these themes during a seminar organised on
the occasion of its General Assembly of 1 June 2001 in Peso da Régua, Portugal.
The Douro region is a deliberate choice. Where the river Douro is still an
unknown factor in inland navigation, it represents a remarkable potential for
developing river and sea-river transport thanks to the dynamism and innovative
ideas of regional entrepreneurs. Its success will contribute to attractive
alternatives for inland transport on the peninsula.

We would be very pleased if you could be our personal guest during this
seminar in Peso da Régua and join us in a debate on the development of inland ports
and shipping within the transport chain. Kindly register by sending the
attached registration form to the EFIP secretariat as soon as possible. We
enclose special hotel rates for EFIP delegates.
