WHITE PAPER "European transport policy for 2010: time to decide"
Available in 11 languages from:
http://europa.eu.int/comm/energy_transport/en/lb_en.html
Objective is to gradually break the link between growth of transport and economic growth.
The main action priorities:
- Eliminate bottlenecks
- Place users at the heart of transport policy
- Gear Transport Policy to users
The proposal is to launch a large-scale programme (Marco Polo) to support intermodal Initiatives and alternatives to road transport in early stages until they become commercially viable. Intermodality will also require rapid introduction of series of technical measures, particularly on containers, loading units, and the profession of freight integrators.
